Ready the camera.
Remove the lens cap and hold the
camera securely with both hands,
being careful not to obstruct the lens,
AF-assist illuminator, or microphone.
Rotate the camera as shown at lower
right when taking pictures in “tall”
(portrait) orientation.
Shutter speeds slow when lighting is
poor; use of the built-in flash (0 58) or
a tripod is recommended.

Using a Zoom Lens
Use the zoom ring to zoom in on the subject so that it fills a larger
area of the frame, or zoom out to increase the area visible in the final
photograph (select longer focal lengths on the lens focal length
scale to zoom in, shorter focal lengths to zoom out; if you are using
a lens with a retractable lens barrel button, unlock and extend the
lens by pressing the button and rotating the zoom ring as described
on page 16).

If you are using an optional lens with a
power drive zoom switch, select T to
zoom in and W to zoom out. The speed
with which the camera zooms in and out
varies with how far you slide the switch.
The zoom position is shown by the zoom
guide in the display.
