The Basics of Shooting and Playback
Using the Zoom
Use the multi selector to activate optical zoom.
To zoom in closer to the subject, press H.
To zoom out and view a larger area, press I.
When you turn the camera on, the zoom moves to the
maximum wide-angle position.
The zoom indicator is displayed on the right
side of the monitor when you press the multi
selector.
Digital Zoom
When the camera is zoomed in to the maximum
optical zoom position, pressing H activates the
digital zoom.
Digital zoom can magnify the subject up to
about 4× beyond the maximum magnification of
the optical zoom.
When you are using digital zoom, the camera
focuses on the subject in the center of the
frame and the focus area is not displayed.

Unlike optical zoom, digital zoom uses a digital imaging process known as interpolation to magnify
images, resulting in slight deterioration of picture quality depending on the Photos setting, which
determines image size and quality (A49), and the digital zoom magnification.
